When you think of surfing, the endless Californian beaches appear in your mind: the iconic lifeguards’ cabins, the palms and the almost impassable waves are a constant in the common fantasies. But surfing is not just an overseas sport, on the contrary.

 

In fact, since the Eighties, thanks to some cult films, a large community of surfers was born and it brought their passion and their surfboard tables around the Italian beaches.

Tuscany, and especially Versilia, is particularly suitable for riding the best waves, because of the winds of libeccio and mistral blowing there and shaking the sea as required. Also the configuration of the coast and the seabed positively affects, creating the ideal conditions for surfing in Italy.

Along the Costa Apuana you will come across the Idrovora, north of the port of Marina di Massa. The sandy seabed, the prohibition of bathing and the frequent south / west winds make it a perfect destination for surfers.

In the deep heart of Versilia, the lucky beaches multiply, offering valid alternatives to both beginners and professionals. In Viareggio, the meeting points are Piazzale Mazzini, with its artificial shallows, and Tito Molo, with frequent storms, ideal for the more experienced. Also, try the sandy beaches of the Darsena and Fosso dell'Abate.

 

Marina di Pietrasanta and Forte dei Marmi

 

Marina di Pietrasanta boasts perfect beaches for first-time surfers: the coast is the ideal place to practice safely. In addition, the town has plenty of surf schools with professional teachers and all the necessary equipment for a beginner: riding on the water will be fun as you've never imagined!

The most reckless surfers find the best spots for them in Forte dei Marmi. The pier is perhaps one of the most popular places in Versilia, thanks to the spectacularity it ensures. In fact, from the top of the pier, you just look down to see gigantic waves crashing on the sand. The high waves and their breaking down on the sandy coast, make this place the most exciting one for surf professionals throughout Italy
