A DIVE IN THE NATURAL SWIMMING POOLS OF MALBACCO
The sea of Forte dei Marmi is certainly synonymous with relax and tranquillity. But, in the Versilia region, there are many hidden attractions, unknown for the majority of people and even for the most frequent visitors. Sometimes I sense the desire of a nice refreshing swim in one of the most magical places to me.
Just a dream? Not at all, an oasis of peace is less than 10 kilometres from St.Mauritius Hotel. More precisely, the natural swimming pools where I love to take refuge are in Malbacco, a little town of the municipality of Serravezza, at the foot of the Apuan Alps. It is not easy to reach it, but for that reason, you will be rewarded on arrival by unforgettable view and atmosphere…a veritable heaven on earth!
The heart of Malbacco is the amazing waterfall made of a creek that, flowing free over the centuries, has carved a natural furrow into the rock, from which you can slide down along about ten meters, but no fear: you will dive into the swimming pool behind, with clear – and quite cold – water! In summer, in the middle of the day, I can assure you that it is a very pleasant experience and an excellent way to fight the warm temperatures. If you prefer more relaxing baths, the pot holes adjacent to the river Serra are perfect: natural swimming pools of crystal water.
A feeling of relax for the body, but also for eyes and mind: here you are surrounded by the green forest, delighted by the melodious singing of birds and a gentle breeze… So, the perfect place to spend a relaxing day when you want to add a different experience to your seaside holiday.
To reach this corner of paradise, arrive in Serravezza and, from there, go towards Malbacco, you will find the first pot holes after about one kilometre. Go straight on until the fourth path, then park your car and, in ten minutes by foot, this hidden pearl will reward you.
A useful advice: remember to wear sneakers and take a pair of rock shoes to walk on the stones of the river.
