Forte dei Marmi is a renowned seaside destination located in Versilia, in the province of Lucca, among the most exclusive in Tuscany. Always frequented by Italian and international actors, footballers and personalities from the world of entertainment, it owes part of its popularity to the charm of its beach, framed by the Apuan Alps, and to its charming and typical bathing establishments, made unique by the "gabine", colorful wooden houses that follow one another all along the coast. The first of these dates back to 1904 and is called Onda Marina.
Over the years, the beaches in Forte dei Marmi have multiplied. They all overlook the splendid coastline characterized by over 5 km of beach, composed of very fine and golden sand and a clear sea that for many years has earned the European Blue Flag recognition.
Parallel to the beach, the promenade allows walks in the shade of palm trees and oleanders as well as a cycle path that connects all the towns of Versilia.
Beach with bathing establishments
This large portion of the beach is home to the typical establishments (which in Tuscany they call "bathrooms") of Forte dei Marmi.
The range of services offered is very wide. The most popular ones reach a full house with umbrellas and sunbeds in a very short time, with reservations arriving from tourists many months before the opening of the season. The most loyal swimmers have even booked the same umbrella for generations. Some bathrooms have chosen to make very few workstations available to customers, in order to favor greater distancing between the various guests and more respect for privacy.
In some of these, there is a swimming pool. Still others are specially designed for families and children, with large spaces with games dedicated to fun and entertainment for the little ones.
All have a bar and restaurant inside, where you can have lunch or dinner and cool off during the hottest hours of the day. Obviously, in all the establishments there is no shortage of changing rooms, toilets, rescue service, hot showers and a reception.
How to choose the right place among the best bathrooms in Forte dei Marmi? Given the countless services, you can choose the bathroom that best meets your needs based on your budget.
Free beach
If the bathing establishments in Forte dei Marmi are not for you - or if you want to give yourself a more natural experience - there is also the free beach of Le Dune, part of the largest WWF oasis of Le Dune which extends into the seafront between Forte dei Marmi (LU) and Cinquale di Montignoso, in the province of Massa-Carrara, precisely in the hamlet of Vittoria Apuana.
Although free, this beach is equipped with some basic services, such as a rescue, shower, toilet, and partitions that act as a changing room.
The beach, constantly cleaned by a special service, also has free parking. Open to dogs, there is a bar on the beach that is also used as a dining area.
