The beginning of a new adventure
It was the Summer of 2012 when my family and I decided to take the plunge and go on a new adventure that was all but certainties. Life is made of decisions and risks and sometimes you have to be brave enough to take a leap of faith and listen to your heart and intuition rather than to your brain.
That summer we decided that from 2013 on, we would take on the management of the St. Mauritius Hotel – which had already been our property, but until then it had been under someone else’s management.
We certainly did not have the skills to do just that, because we hailed from entrepreneurship roles in different sectors that had nothing to do with hospitality. But in the long run we learned that our lack of experience would be a strong point, because it allowed us to approach the hotel management and therefore our guests, with a certain attitude. Our attitude was none like other hoteliers’: it was transparent, impartial, free of biases or preconceptions.
All we wanted was to give our guests an experience. We wanted to cherish their stay with us and give them a service that was top-notch, yet preserving an informal, familiar mood. Well, of course we didn’t always meet our own expectations. But what our hotel stands out for today makes us safe in the knowledge that we have followed the path we took that summer carefully and briskly.
This would never have been possible without the precious help I’ve had from my family members. First off, my aunt – “the director”, with her strong entrepreneural experience.
Likely, this shall be said for everyone who works or used to work at the St. Mauritius Hotel. Each one of them really had an impact on our guests’ impression of the hotel.
It is crucial to restyle the hotel every year like we do, in order to keep it all fresh and modern. But above all, it is essential to have a top-notch staff. A well trained, motivated, attentive and empathic group of people dealing with the guest. We believe that this is the x-factor we need to reach our goal. That is, to be special.
Last but not least, we would like to thank all of our guests, past and present. Everyone who appreciated us, thanked us, shared their emotions and impressions with us. Ultimately we also thank the ones who criticised us and inspired us to do better.
